Confidence labels
Every figure Oblifee shows carries one of three confidence labels. They exist so you always know how much weight a number can bear before you act on it. This page is the quick reference; for the fuller treatment, including how citations work, see Confidence & citations.
The three labels

| Confirmed | Computed from a verified, in-force rule in the regulatory brain, with a citation to its source. | Filing figures and budgeting with confidence. |
| Illustrative | Shows the shape of an answer using representative values, where a confirmed rule is not yet available. | Understanding structure and rough scale, not filing. |
| Estimate | A reasoned approximation - for example a fee for a product whose spec was read from a document, or a projection. | Planning and comparison, pending confirmed inputs. |
:::info The rule behind the rule The label is not decided by the app for convenience - it is carried through unchanged from the brain. If the brain marks a rate an estimate, every surface that uses it says so too. The application cannot upgrade an estimate to confirmed. See Regulatory brain integrity. :::
How to read a labelled figure
- Confirmed figures come with a citation you can open - the specific rule, rate or guidance the number rests on.
- Illustrative and estimate figures are clearly marked so they are never mistaken for a filing-ready number. They are useful for direction and scale while confirmed data is pending.
- When inputs improve - a confirmed rate is loaded, or you replace a read-from-document spec with exact packaging data - the figure and its label update accordingly.
Why Oblifee works this way
Compliance you cannot trace is compliance you cannot defend. Labelling every number keeps Oblifee honest: it will show you an estimate when that is the best available answer, but it will always tell you it is an estimate rather than dress it up as certainty. This is also why Oblifee is a decision-support tool, not legal advice - you and your advisors make the final call, with the confidence and the citation in front of you.
