Glossary

The terms you will meet across these docs, in plain language. Regulatory acronyms are defined once here and used freely elsewhere.

A​

Admin - A workspace role that can manage data, team and settings, but is not the billing owner. See Authentication.

Audit log - A durable record of consequential actions (data edits, access grants, billing, exports, staff actions), written in the same transaction as the change it describes. See Data handling.

B​

Batteries - A regulatory stream: producer obligations for batteries placed on a market, handled by the WEEE & batteries module. See WEEE & batteries.

Brain - See Regulatory brain.

Brand - A trading brand you sell under. Brands can span more than one business, so they are managed separately and linked to products. See Brands.

Business - A legal entity that places goods on a market, with its registered and operating addresses, company number and key contacts. A workspace can hold several. See Businesses.

C​

Citation - The source reference behind a figure - the specific rule, rate or guidance it comes from. Every number Oblifee shows carries one. See Confidence & citations.

Confidence label - The honesty tag on every figure: confirmed, illustrative or estimate. See Confidence labels.

Confirmed - A confidence label meaning the figure comes from a verified, in-force rule.

Consultant workbench - Tools for a consultant to manage a portfolio of client workspaces from one place. See Consultant workbench.

Content Security Policy (CSP) - A browser-enforced rule limiting where a page may load code and content from. See Application hardening.

D​

Data minimisation - The principle of holding only the data compliance needs. See Data handling.

E​

Eco-modulation - Adjusting an EPR fee up or down based on how recyclable the packaging is - cheaper for recyclable designs, dearer for problematic ones. Handled via the Recyclability (RAM) module.

EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) - The principle, and the laws, that make the business placing packaging (or electricals, or batteries) on a market responsible for the cost of its end-of-life collection and treatment. Oblifee's core subject. See Packaging EPR.

ERP connector - The token-authenticated REST API an ERP or custom system uses to push product and volume data into a workspace.

Estimate - A confidence label meaning the figure is a reasoned approximation, not a confirmed rule-based number.

I​

Illustrative - A confidence label meaning the figure shows the shape of an answer using representative values, pending confirmed data.

Import job - A record of a spreadsheet or feed load, with its status and any row-level issues. See Bulk import.

J​

Jurisdiction - The brain's term for a market - a nation or region with its own rules. See Market.

L​

Label check - A pay-gated check that reads what is visibly on your packaging artwork and compares it, deterministically, against the cited on-pack requirements for the product's markets. See On-pack labelling.

Labelling - A stream covering the marks and text packaging must carry (recycling and disposal symbols, material identifiers and more), per market. See On-pack labelling.

M​

Managed identity - A cloud-issued, automatically rotated identity Oblifee uses to reach its database and secrets without any stored password. See Secrets & managed identity.

Market - A nation (or region) where you have obligations. Each market has its own rules in the brain. See Markets & streams.

Material - A packaging material in the brain's taxonomy (for example a plastic, paper, glass or metal type), used to price fees and assess recyclability.

Member - The everyday workspace role; can be limited to specific businesses.

Module - A switchable capability: EPR, labelling, recyclability (RAM), WEEE & batteries, reporting & PPWR, and the consultant workbench. See Compliance modules.

O​

Obligation - Something a market requires of you - to register, to report, to pay - with its periodicity, deadlines, thresholds and citations. See Obligations & markets.

Obli - Oblifee's built-in AI assistant, which reads your workspace and the brain to answer questions and walk you through tasks. See Obli.

Owner - The workspace role with full control, including billing.

P​

Pack - A named outer packaging unit you define - a case, mailer or transit wrap - that groups material components and records how many sellable units it holds. Also called a pack group.

Pack component - A single material line within a product's packaging (material and weight), attached either directly to the product (primary packaging) or to a pack.

PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) - The EU regulation setting harmonised packaging and recyclability requirements across member states. See Reporting & PPWR.

Producer - The business legally responsible for goods placed on a market - the party EPR obligations fall on.

Product - Something you sell, with its packaging broken down into components grouped per pack. See Products.

Product Builder - Tools to estimate fees for a product that does not exist yet, or to redesign an existing product's packaging to reduce fees. See Product Builder.

Q​

Quarantine - The holding area every uploaded file passes through to be malware-scanned before any byte is parsed. See Application hardening.

R​

RAM (Recyclability Assessment Methodology) - The scheme methodology used to rate how recyclable a packaging item is, which drives eco-modulated fees. See Recyclability.

Recyclability - How readily a packaging item can be recycled under a market's methodology; the subject of the RAM module.

Redesign concept - An AI-proposed packaging redesign whose fee saving is computed deterministically from your data and the brain's rates. See Product Builder.

Registration - Enrolling a business with a market's scheme or regulator, with its scheme, number and dates. See Registrations.

Regulatory brain - Oblifee's continuously monitored, read-only dataset of rules, fees, thresholds and guidance, with citations and confidence labels. See The regulatory brain and brain integrity.

Row-level security (RLS) - The database mechanism that separates each workspace's rows so one workspace can never read another's. See Tenant isolation.

S​

Scheme - A producer-responsibility organisation or compliance scheme through which obligations in a market are met.

SKU - Stock-keeping unit; your identifier for a product.

Stream - A family of producer obligations the brain covers - packaging, WEEE (electricals), batteries, and more. See Markets & streams.

T​

Tenant - The technical name for a workspace. See Workspace.

Threshold - A volume or turnover level above which an obligation applies (for example, a minimum tonnage before you must register).

V​

Volume - How much of a product you placed on a market over a period - the quantity that drives fees and thresholds. See Volumes.

W​

WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) - The regime making producers responsible for end-of-life electricals; a stream alongside packaging and batteries. See WEEE & batteries.

Workspace - Your isolated environment; all your data lives inside it and is never shared with another workspace. Also called a tenant. See Your workspace.
